Human well-being is in Peter Hult’s DNA.
It is evident in his personal engagements, career choices and the very leadership position he holds in the global maritime industries which are united by the sea and as varied as the functions they serve.
Founder and CEO of VIKAND, the global maritime medical operations and public health provider, Peter’s penchant is to provide thought leadership and to forge relationships for seafarer sustainability. His combined skills capture the essence of understanding what needs to be done, providing influence, and identifying solutions for those who need them—be it for commercial enterprise or philanthropic endeavors.
Peter Hult’s experience reflects a synergistic path to his role as an ambassador of a culture of care. His career is rooted in human resources management with Silversea Cruise Line and The World of ResidenSea. Moving to MHG Insurance, he parlayed his HR experience in an executive leadership role handling global maritime employee benefits solutions for commercial, cruise and yachting sectors.
In 2009, Peter intuitively sensed the compelling need for a comprehensive approach to maritime medical operations and founded VIKAND Solutions, LLC. In the ensuing years, VIKAND has matured into a company whose vision is to be the world’s leading expert in maritime healthcare. Propelled by common purpose, Peter has created a team that is steadfast, intelligent, and empathetic. Vikanders fulfill a mission to provide robust and proactive healthcare and public health solutions to universally benefit maritime operators and their employees.
The son of a Swedish sea captain, Peter was drawn to the adventure of life aboard, the places one could go, and the diversity of cultures experienced by travelling the world’s oceans. Successfully moving his career from sea to shore, his experience informs intuition. Peter is a maritime executive who identifies issues early, creates solutions architectures, and acts decisively.
The very name, VIKAND, reflects this ability. “We can because we care” is its mantra, anchored by translating from the Swedish, Vi Kan, while emphasizing just how fast: on demand. Such is the case in VIKAND’s response to COVID-19, its variants, and the delivery of fast-moving tactics to deal with a global pandemic that deeply affects all maritime sectors. VIKAND’s implementation of public health best practices, worldwide logistics expertise, vetted technologies and products, and a compassionate, determined, and conscientious team results in solutions that enable smoother operations than might have been imagined at the outset. Solutions delivered by demand.
This ability to sense need, to provide protection, detection, and mitigation has resulted in VIKAND partnerships in all maritime verticals and an increased focus on investment in seafarers. It is Peter’s position that human sustainability is good for business and good for seafarers.
Peter lives in Florida and travels the globe while keeping his Swedish birthright close. A champion of international commerce, Peter founded and served as the first President of the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.
His passion for people led Peter to co-found and serve as the inaugural Vice Chairman of the Marine Industry Cares Foundation and as a Board Member of Kids in Distress, Broward County, Florida.
Peter Hult is also an author, speaker, and panelist. His comments will always be empathetic to the needs of seafarers and collaborative with those who work in shore-based professions. He creates relationships where none existed before. He steers his team to promote human sustainability and the methods to achieve it. He listens to the winds of change.
Peter then sharpens his knives as he is a chef, a husband, a dad. Good health starts at home and, in Peter’s case, circumnavigates the globe.
